The reputable and famous Swiss watchmaking brand Zenith celebrates the 40th anniversary of the El Primero timepiece powered with the legendary calibre 469 (1969). The company decides to mark the event with the launch of two special editions of timepieces - The Originals and New Vintage 69.
Always copied but never equaled – it’s all about El Primero. It should be said that still calibre 469 occupies the central place in the family of chronographs by Zenith. The same calibre is used as a basis for a part of Academy, Chronomaster, Class, Defy and Port Royal collections.
The first release of El Primero was an important event. And if five years ago the slogan from the Motorola Razr V3 advertising hinting on superiority of its owner referred to a mobile phone in 1969 the same words could be applied to the Zenith chronographs. Automatic calibre 469 with a chronograph column wheel has become the first movement able to measure short time intervals up to 1/10 of a second. Record balance frequency makes up 36,000 bph while the minimal power reserve equals to 50 hors. The calibre comprises 278 elements and 31 rubies and boasts COSC certification.
In 2009 El Primero The Originals was based on the same calibre. Cotes de Geneve decorated rotor is visible trough the sapphire crystal back case (depending on the case material the rotor can be crafted from gold, steel or titanium). The back case also shows an engraved jubilee logo of the collection.
The design of the new Zenith timepiece is really outstanding. The lines are clear and expressive. The dial has been slightly modified: the chronograph counters were placed near to the centre. The case of the new timepiece measures 40 mm in diameter. Functions remained unchanged: hours, minutes, seconds, 30-minutes, 12-hours and 60-seconds chronograph counters, tachymeter scale and date between 4 and 5 o’clock.
The basic movement can be complicated with the moon phase indicator or calendar. One more peculiarity of the watch is instantaneous date change (it takes only 7/1000 of a second for a retrograde hand).
Depending on the version the dial of the new Zenith watch can be golden, silvery or transparent. The dial is protected with AR sapphire crystal. The watch is water resistant to 50 meters.
According to the representatives of Zenith all three versions of El Primero The Originals – golden, steel and titanium – reflect the dynamic development of the collection: its past, present and future.
